Revolutionary 100 V GaN Power Stages Enter Mass Production for Motor Drives

Efficient Power Conversion (EPC) has embarked on mass production of its 100 V integrated gallium nitride (GaN) power-stage IC family, including models EPC23108, EPC23109, EPC23110, and EPC23111. These ePower™ Stage ICs are tailored for high-performance motion-control applications, featuring a compact design that integrates high-side and low-side eGaN® FETs, gate drivers, and level-shifting circuitry in thermally enhanced QFN packages. The product line is engineered to support operations up to 100 V with current ratings of either 35 A or 20 A, depending on the model, aiming to enhance power density and efficiency while streamlining system design.

The new devices boast capabilities such as fast fault shutdown, safe gate control during power-loss scenarios, and continuous 100% duty-cycle operation. They also offer single-input PWM options for multi-axis motor-control applications. To complement these ICs, EPC has introduced the EPC91128, EPC91129, EPC91130, and EPC91131 evaluation boards for three-phase BLDC motor drives. These platforms are built around the new power-stage ICs and come equipped with gate drivers, current and voltage sensing, housekeeping power supplies, as well as temperature monitoring and protection functions.

The availability of these innovations is facilitated through EPC’s global distribution partners, including Digi-Key and Mouser. The target applications for these devices are broad, encompassing humanoid robots, drones, industrial motor drives, medical equipment, synchronous rectification, and high-density DC-DC converters. Pricing for the EPC23108 and EPC23109 models is set at $3.70 each, while the EPC23110 and EPC23111 are priced at $2.47 each, based on bulk orders of 3,000 units. For the evaluation boards, the EPC91128 and EPC91129 are priced at $640 each, with the EPC91130 and EPC91131 available at $630 each.

Additionally, EPC is releasing a technical white paper, available in both English and Chinese, detailing the architecture, design considerations, and evaluation platforms associated with the new integrated GaN power-stage ICs. This move underscores EPC’s commitment to advancing semiconductor technology by focusing on enhancement-mode gallium nitride (eGaN®) power devices and integrated circuits. Since its establishment in 2007, EPC has been at the forefront of developing GaN-based power solutions for a diverse range of applications, including DC-DC converters, lidar, motor drives, robotics, drones, and satellite systems.
