Chinese President Xi Jinping has underscored the importance of bolstering ties and enhancing cooperation with Egypt during his visit to Cairo, emphasizing the enduring relationship between the two nations. Xi’s visit coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Egypt, a milestone that was marked by a warm reception from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his wife, welcoming Xi and his spouse Peng Liyuan.
In a message released prior to his arrival, Xi highlighted the robustness of the China-Egypt relationship despite various changes in the global landscape. He urged for renewed efforts to deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, while also advocating for the exploration of new areas of collaboration. With both nations pursuing significant national development goals, Xi proposed aligning their development strategies to enhance synergy.
President Xi expressed a desire for increased cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, placing emphasis on practical projects that promise long-term economic advantages. Additionally, he called for expanded collaboration in diverse fields, including education, tourism, science and technology, healthcare, sports, and archaeology. Such exchanges, he noted, would enhance mutual understanding and fortify the bonds between the Chinese and Egyptian peoples.
Xi also emphasized the need for China and Egypt to continue supporting each other on key issues and safeguarding their shared interests. He acknowledged Egypt’s pivotal role in fostering cooperation between China and both Arab nations and Africa. As members of the Global South, Xi highlighted the importance of closer coordination on international matters, advocating for increased support for multilateral cooperation and joint initiatives to foster global peace and stability.
This visit is anticipated to further strengthen the political and economic relations between Beijing and Cairo, paving the way for new opportunities in trade, infrastructure, technology, and other sectors. Xi affirmed China’s commitment to working with Egypt to build on seven decades of diplomatic ties and inject new momentum into their comprehensive strategic partnership.
