China’s foreign trade has shown remarkable expansion over the first eight months of this year, with the combined value of imports and exports hitting 34.78 trillion yuan, equivalent to $5.18 trillion. This represents a significant 17.6% increase compared to the same period last year. Notably, exports experienced a 14.6% rise, reaching 20.17 trillion yuan, while imports surged by 22% to total 14.61 trillion yuan.
The momentum in trade growth intensified in August, as the total value of goods imported and exported jumped by 19.8% year-on-year, amounting to 4.65 trillion yuan. During this month, exports climbed by 18.6%, and imports saw a 21.7% increase, underscoring a robust trading environment.
For four consecutive months, both exports and imports have consistently achieved double-digit year-on-year growth. Over the past six months, the growth rate of imports has consistently surpassed that of exports, highlighting a dynamic shift in trade patterns.
This sustained upward trajectory in trade figures underscores the strength and resilience of China’s trading activities in the global market. The continued robust performance of imports, outpacing exports, reflects strong domestic demand and a vibrant economic landscape.
