Trump Accuses Iran of Double-Talk as Peace Process Stalls

by admin477351

President Donald Trump publicly accused Iran of presenting a false front on Thursday, claiming the country’s negotiators were privately desperate for a deal while publicly pretending to be only casually reviewing the American proposal. Writing on Truth Social, Trump warned that Iran needed to get serious “before it is too late,” adding that once a line was crossed, there would be no turning back. The statement reflects growing American frustration with what officials see as Iranian diplomatic theatrics.

The ceasefire proposal Washington has submitted to Tehran covers 15 distinct points. It offers economic relief through the removal of sanctions and demands in exchange the termination of Iran’s nuclear ambitions, limits on its missile arsenal, and the permanent opening of the Strait of Hormuz to international maritime traffic. This strategically vital waterway facilitates the movement of approximately one-fifth of global oil supplies, making its status a central point of contention.

Iran’s publicly stated counter-proposal is rooted in demands for security and sovereignty. Tehran wants the targeting of its officials to cease, a formal guarantee that the United States will not launch future wars against it, reparations for damage already inflicted, and international recognition of its authority over the Strait of Hormuz. The gap between these positions and the American framework remains wide.

The ongoing conflict has been catastrophic for civilian populations. Over 1,500 people have been killed in Iran and approximately 1,100 in Lebanon, while dozens have died in Israel. Thirteen US military personnel have also lost their lives, and the conflict has displaced millions across the region, straining humanitarian resources to their limits.

The combination of continued military strikes and stalled diplomacy leaves the region in a precarious state. Trump’s escalating tone suggests the administration may be approaching a decision point. Analysts warn that without a breakthrough in the coming days, the conflict could enter a new and more destructive phase.
