Rupert Grint is making a notable return to his iconic role as Ron Weasley, this time on Broadway in the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. This marks his return to the character more than a decade after the last Harry Potter film was released. Grint will step into the role for a 17-week stint starting in February 2027, joining a production that has been captivating audiences for years. He originally portrayed the beloved character of Ron Weasley across all eight films in the blockbuster series, alongside co-stars Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson.

Reflecting on his return to the stage as Ron, Grint expressed his excitement, noting, “Ron Weasley has been a part of me since I was 11 years old and I can’t wait to meet him again at this stage of life.” He highlighted how portraying Ron as a father has added a layer of both familiarity and novelty to the experience. His return to the role follows fellow Harry Potter alum Tom Felton, who recently reprised his character Draco Malfoy in the same Broadway show. Felton is set to continue performing until January, adding to the ensemble’s appeal.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child first premiered in London back in 2016 and has since expanded to numerous productions worldwide. The New York rendition of the play alone has garnered over $532 million, contributing to a global ticket sales tally exceeding 14 million. This enduring popularity underscores the continuing influence and magic of the Harry Potter universe on audiences around the world.

Grint’s own history with Broadway dates back to 2014, when he debuted in the comedy It’s Only a Play. Since his time in the Harry Potter films, Grint has built a diverse acting portfolio with credits in projects like Knock at the Cabin, Charlie Countryman, and Nightborn. His return to the magical world coincides with the development of a new Harry Potter television series for HBO, which aims to introduce the beloved story to a new generation of fans.
