China Criticizes US Tech-Driven Sanctions on Russian Energy Purchases

by admin477351

In response to a proposed U.S. sanctions bill targeting significant purchasers of Russian oil and natural gas, China has expressed strong disapproval and pledged to defend the legitimate interests of its businesses. The proposed legislation aims to impose sanctions on the largest global buyers of Russian crude oil and natural gas, prominently featuring China.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian articulated China’s firm opposition to unilateral sanctions lacking a foundation in international law or endorsement from the United Nations Security Council. Lin emphasized that such measures, which China views as unlawful, would be met with all necessary counteractions to safeguard the rights and interests of Chinese companies.

Furthermore, Lin cautioned that the use of double standards and coercive tactics, as embodied in the proposed U.S. sanctions, would ultimately prove counterproductive. This stance highlights China’s continuing resistance to what it perceives as illegitimate unilateral actions on the part of other nations.

The unfolding situation underscores the broader geopolitical tensions surrounding energy trade, particularly in the context of Russian exports. As China positions itself against the proposed sanctions, it reiterates its commitment to protecting its economic engagements and maintaining its stance against unilateral policymaking.
