In a recent meeting with Jordan’s King Abdullah II in Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping reiterated China’s advocacy for a two-state resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Xi underscored the importance of resuming peace talks, aiming for the swift establishment of an independent Palestinian state. He highlighted the necessity of a comprehensive ceasefire, the protection of civilians, ongoing humanitarian aid, and a political resolution adhering to international law.
President Xi emphasized the principle that Palestinians should govern themselves, particularly regarding the governance of the West Bank and the reconstruction efforts in Gaza. This stance aligns with China’s broader diplomatic approach to the Middle East, seeking to play a constructive role in regional peace and stability.
The discussions between Xi and King Abdullah extended beyond the geopolitical focus, as they explored ways to bolster the strategic partnership between China and Jordan. Both leaders agreed to intensify collaboration across various sectors, including trade, infrastructure, transportation, digital technology, artificial intelligence, and green energy. This enhanced cooperation aims to solidify economic ties and foster sustainable development.
As part of their commitment to deepening bilateral relations, China and Jordan signed multiple cooperation agreements following the talks. These agreements reflect a mutual interest in expanding economic and technological exchanges, which are seen as beneficial for both nations in addressing future challenges and opportunities.
