At the United Nations General Assembly’s Third Committee, China and 27 other nations, including Russia, Egypt, and Iran, have urged the global community to end unilateral coercive measures. These countries argue that such measures interfere with national sovereignty and undermine multilateral cooperation principles.

Fu Cong, China’s permanent representative to the United Nations, emphasized during the assembly that unilateral actions contribute to international instability and impose economic and humanitarian burdens on developing nations. The collective statement highlighted that sanctions, secondary restrictions, and compliance measures exacerbate economic and humanitarian challenges, posing threats to food, energy, and financial security.

The group of 28 countries also raised concerns about the increasing use of tariffs as a means of economic pressure. They warned that these practices could disrupt global trade and supply chains, hindering affected nations’ efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

Furthermore, the statement outlined the negative impact of unilateral coercive measures on fundamental rights, including access to health, education, development, and other basic necessities. The countries involved in the joint statement called on those imposing such measures to adhere to the UN Charter and international law, urging them to lift these restrictions.

The statement also encouraged UN members and international organizations to support countries affected by these unilateral measures, underscoring the importance of respecting international norms and fostering cooperative relationships among nations.
